No you don’t have to love your body

I was talking with a friend a bit ago who has been struggling to lose weight and has been following some fitness people online who promote "loving your body".  She made a comment that really stuck with me because with my history, I completely understood where she was coming from.   She told me "I am sick and tired of hearing how I need to love my body.  I HATE my body.  I look at myself and all I see is fat.  I hate how I look, I hate how I feel and I hate that I cannot walk for just a few minut...

Stop Stressing Your Way To Being Fat.

Stress management is the 3rd thing on my list of priorities to have for weight loss or just a healthy happy life.  All of us are under stress every single day.  From our jobs, our families, our friends and heck even our recreational activities can cause us stress.  Dealing with high levels of stress on a daily basis without learning how to lessen the stress load leads to chronic stress.  Chronic stress leads to a whole slew of health problems, and weight gain is definitely one of them. How we...

It’s all in our mind. Our thoughts can help us lose weight as well as find happiness

Mindset matters, and it matters way more than most of us give it credit for.  In all areas of our lives.  Our mindset or attitude can determine the success or failure of something as soon as we have the thought enter our head. When we think positive, we usually end up with a positive outcome because we look for the positive in the outcome.  When we think negative, we generally end up with a negative outcome just because we expect it and look for all the negative things.  Mindset, like most th...

Choose Half-assed over Perfect!

It's my monthly training weekend which means I was on the road for a fast food a good bit again. Sometimes I grab something to eat while driving, sometimes I grab something at a store, and on occasion like this Saturday I eat in at the restaurant. (I needed the wifi) I know it's hard to believe but you can get a halfway healthy breakfast at McDonald's and many other places if you really put your mind to it...and the grill master cooperates. At McDonald's I usually try to order a piece of ...

5 reasons to shop at a farmer’s market

Other than the heat, the sun and being in the water as often as possible, one of my favorite things about summer is Farmer's Markets.  Farmer's Markets are the BEST.  I absolutely adore them.  I think they are one of the best things since sliced bread, cuz lets get real.  if you have ever baked your own bread, then you know that having to slice it is a bitch. In the summer and fall I make a point to have my route to and from work to pass by the farmer's market so that I will not forget to stop ...

Sleep your way to weight loss

Sleep your way to fat loss?  You're kidding me right?  Nope.  Making sure we get enough sleep every night is what I would consider the number 1 out of the 5 things I believe we should prioritize for fat loss.  Many people in the health and fitness industry will have at least 3 or 4 of the same top 5 priorities, but maybe do not put them in the same order. In my blog last week I touched on the 5 things to prioritize for weight loss.   The reason I prioritize each of these things in this particul...

Emotional eating signs, triggers, and tools to help

While emotional eating may not be one of the 4 diagnoses of eating disorders according to the American Psychiatric Association's Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published in 2013, it is definitely disordered eating.  If you are interested in reading more about the eating disorders, The National Eating Disorders Association has an informative article about them and the Psychology Today website has an Eating Disorders and Emotional Eating Test th...

You really eat that crap?

Hahaha, I get the question in the title a LOT.   Yes, I really eat that.  That really was my breakfast one day last week.  I do not eat things like this all the time of course, but on occasion, yes I eat McDonald's food.  It is not bad, it is not good. It is food.  I also had a big ass ass salad for lunch, veggies and cheese for snacks, a small ass salad, some veggies and a steak for supper that night.  Oh and a a sip of everyone's mixed drinks to! Food is not inherently bad or good.  The wor...
