OwnYourShit

The other day I posted a meme with the hashtag #OwnYourShit. I love this phrase. I say it to myself all the time and say a variation of it to others when talking about personal growth. Owning Your Shit is one of the keys to unlocking the door to health and happiness.

When I say #OwnYourShit, I mean taking ownership of everything you say and do in your life in ALL areas. You own everything about you. The good, the bad, the pretty and the ugly. Then you have to love and accept yourself as is.

An FYI, You can love and accept yourself and still want to and work on changing at the same time…but that is another practice for another blog.

When we Own Our Shit, it means we stop blaming others for something that happens to us or for our circumstances. #OwnYourShit means taking responsibility for each and every single action, and circumstance in our life. Once we begin to own our shit, we begin the process of moving from a victim mindset to that of an abundance or creator mindset.

We need to stop and remember that while we cannot control what happens to us or what others do, we CAN control how we respond. How we respond to people and situations is going to be one of the things that determines our level of overall happiness.

When we have a victim mindset we tend to react negatively or defensively because we see other people as attacking us or causing bad things to happen to us this negative reaction stimulates our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response) We tense up, our blood pressure and body temperature rises, our brain goes into overdrive and so on and so forth. We also often speak or act impulsively and may regret what we say or do later. This type of behavior is never any fun and can cause lots of damage to a any type of relationship.

When we have a creator or abundance mindset we are able to take a moment and choose to either not respond at all to people or situations or to respond from a place of empathy and compassion with loving kindness. When we are able to do this, we are able to keep our body in a state of homeostasis (balance or equilibrium). Keeping our body and mind in homeostasis is paramount to both our physical and mental wellbeing as well as our happiness.
